So I’ve noticed something strange with my 2017 A7 3.0 TDI over the last few weeks, and I’m hoping someone here has experienced something similar. When I start the car in the morning and everything is cold, there’s this distinct whining noise that seems to come from the transmission area, almost like a pump or bearing is struggling. The noise is most noticeable when I’m driving at low speeds, around 20-40 km/h, and it seems to change pitch with engine speed. The really strange thing is that once the car has been driven for about 15-20 minutes and everything has warmed up properly, the whining completely disappears and the car drives perfectly fine with no noise at all. I’ve checked the transmission fluid level and it seems fine, and there are no warning lights or error codes showing up. I’m wondering if this could be the transmission fluid pump struggling when the fluid is cold and thick, or maybe a bearing that’s starting to wear but expands and quietens down when warm. I’ve been looking for a specialist to diagnose this and I found a place that’s described as Genuine Audi transmission system repair in Musaffah Shabiya, which seems like they’d have the proper diagnostic equipment to figure this out. Has anyone else experienced this kind of cold whining noise from their transmission that goes away when warm, and what was the cause and fix? I’m really hoping it’s nothing serious like the torque converter or the oil pump failing, because I know those repairs can be incredibly expensive. Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s dealt with this.
